Big Brew 2015

posted Mar 13, 2015, 8:40 AM by Midnight Brewers

National Homebrew Day is Saturday, May 2, 2015.  Each year it is celebrated nation-wide by homebrewers doing what they do...brewing beer!  It's called Big Brew.  The Midnight Homebrewers' League has celebrated each year by holding a local Big Brew event at a club member's home in Carroll County, Maryland.  This year's Big Brew is hosted by Kyle Snell in Hampstead, Maryland.

Brewers are responsible for bringing their brewing equipment and ingredients.  Well water that is good for brewing will be available, but to relieve the strain on Kyle's well it is requested that brewers consider bringing at least some of their own brewing water.  Also bring chairs, canopies, portable tables, and anything else you'll need for the day.  The club will provide some food items, and bottled water, but members are also asked to bring a dish to share for breakfast, lunch, or snacks.

If you plan to attend, whether or not you are brewing, please RSVP directly to Kyle at k.snell1231@gmail.com

Barrel Projects - What next?

posted Jan 26, 2015, 11:17 AM by Midnight Brewers

We have two 53-gallon bourbon barrels which are currently aging their second beers.  In the next couple of months we will start tasting them, and deciding when those beers need to come out.

We have posted a new Survey to receive feedback on what to put into the barrels next.  One will definitely be a sour.  The other all depends on responses.  If you are interested in either or both barrels, please go to the survey:

20th Anniversary Picnic & Brew-Ha-Ha

posted Jun 27, 2014, 10:35 AM by Midnight Brewers   [ updated Jul 5, 2014, 11:36 PM by Steve Kranz ]

All members are encouraged to turn out at the club's 20th Anniversary Picnic and Brew-Ha-Ha hosted by Lindy and Neil Mezebish on Saturday, July 12.  It will be an all-day affair of brewing, eating, swimming, and of course sharing homebrews.  Bring family and friends, swim suits and towels, lawn chairs, canopies if you wish, and of course your brewing gear.  Brewers will have access to Neil's filtered well water, but if you prefer your own brewing water, bring it.  If your all-grain rig requires gravity flow, scaffolding will be set up to accommodate at least two brewers.  And if you are an extract brewer interested in sharing a 10-gallon all-grain batch with another brewer, let us know and we'll try to hook you up.

We'll have a special 20th Anniversary Gift for all members in attendance...with an option for personalization on site!  Raffle for a 50/50 prize plus additional 20th Anniversary club swag, and some other goodies including donated brewing equipment.  If you have some spare gear which needs a home and can donate it to the Raffle, let Debbie Lyons know.

Cost of the event is $10 per adult and includes all food, water and soft drinks, and an Anniversary gift.  RSVP your intentions (whether attending, and whether brewing) directly to Neil.

The club is providing all of the food for this event (including a few breakfast items for the early-arrivers).  So unless you have particular dietary needs which are not met by grilled & smoked meat, basic sides, snack items, salads and desserts, no additional food needs to be brought.

If you are unfamiliar with Neil's address, please be aware that the official Post Office address won't get you there if you use GPS.  You need to access Neil's driveway on Glenvue Road. The GPS address is 3020 Glenvue,  Call him first if you need specifics (his address and # are in the Membership Roster if you need to look it up...I won't post them here since this is a public posting.

Depending on your brewing gear, you are advised to drop off your equipment at Neil's on Friday night because access may be limited on Saturday with other brewers' set ups in place.
